“Museum Research & Education Building Project Underway”

The Whitley County Historical Society is in the process of building a 1368 sq ft addition to the current annex to the county museum. The new addition will be used for education and research, allowing Whitley County history and stories of our people to flow into the community. The project is being made possible by money raised by the Whitley County Historical Society. The Whitley County Community Foundation and Whitley County both gave generous amounts to get this project off the ground. Donations have been coming in from Whitley County Historical Society members. The Society is now within $25,000 of completing the project.

When completed, the building will contain all the marriage, birth, death, cemetery, family and military records that you can now only access by going upstairs or down in the basement of the Marshall Home where they are stored. All records will now be accessible on the ground floor level of the new building addition.

People come from across the United States and from other countries to access Whitley County family records. In the past month, we have had people from Whitley County, throughout Indiana, as well as Florida, Arizona, Minnesota, and Montana who are researching their families. They have been able to find information in our many files that have been recorded and collected over many years by the museum staff and the genealogy organization. Articles from newspapers fill over 16 file cabinets of news involving people that were in the Post and Mail, Churubusco News and South Whitley papers.
